Kingsville, TX — Texas A&M-Kingsville closed out the series in style on Golden Sunday, rolling past Lubbock Christian 14-8 at Nolan Ryan Field to take the series three games to one.
The Javelinas (18-12, 18-12 LSC) came out firing on all cylinders, jumping on the Chaparrals early and never letting them get comfortable, finishing with 15 hits and 14 runs on a sunny Sunday in Kingsville.
TAMUK wasted no time getting on the board, as Nick Reyes reached on a fielding error to score Joshua Prado and Cade Minus followed with an RBI single to put the Javelinas up 2-0 after the first. Jaden Cavazos added a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 3-0 before LCU got on the board in the third.
The Javelinas responded immediately, however, as Landon Salinas launched a solo home run to left field and Isaiah Aguilar added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5-1. LCU clawed back to within two in the fourth, but TAMUK answered with a three-run burst of their own. Joshua Prado tripled to right center to plate two and Salinas followed with an RBI double before Reyes capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-3.
The Javelinas continued to pile on in the fifth, as Jayden Martinez, Cavazos, and Prado each drove in runs to extend the lead to 13-5 before Travis Vlasek put the exclamation point with a solo home run to deep left field in the sixth to make it 14-6.
Salinas and Vlasek each went deep on the afternoon, with Salinas finishing 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored. Prado was equally impressive, tallying a triple and three RBI to go along with two runs scored. Adam DeBoer earned the win on the mound, improving to 1-0 on the season.
