CONWAY, Ark. – The Javelinas opened the UCA Spring Break Invitational with a split day at the Beach Bear Sand Courts on Friday, dropping a tough one to UT Martin before bouncing back with a dominant sweep of Southwest Baptist to close out the afternoon.

Against UT Martin, Laura Betsa and Kalani Vasquez provided the lone bright spot at pair two, winning in straight sets to give Kingsville its only point of the match. The Skyhawks proved too much elsewhere. Rylan Pollard and Liana Huesca battled to a third set at pair one before falling 15-17, and Clara Presmanes-Garate and Kamryn Briggs pushed to a third as well, dropping a heartbreaker 11-15 at pair five. UT Martin took it 4-1.

The Javelinas responded in a big way against Southwest Baptist, and it started early. Betsa and Vasquez set the tone at pair two, and Kate Wozniak and Elizabeth Williams were dominant at pair four. The two pairs combined to give Kingsville an emphatic start and put the Bearcats on their heels from the jump.

From there, the Javelinas never let up. Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman handled pair three with ease, Pollard and Huesca were composed and controlled at pair one, and Presmanes-Garate and Briggs put a bow on it at pair five. A complete team effort from top to bottom. TAMUK won all five pairs in straight sets and never gave Southwest Baptist a chance to get comfortable.

The Javelinas return to the Beach Bear Sand Courts on Saturday, facing UT Martin at 8:00 a.m. before closing out the tournament against Southwest Baptist at 10:00 a.m.
