Kingsville - Following a historic week at the dish, the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team's junior first baseman,
Dakota Martinez, won the Lone Star Conference's Hitter of the Week award, the first of her career and second won by a Javelina this season.
In four games, Martinez went 9-of-15 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, and two walks. In a win over the Cameron Aggies in game one of their doubleheader on Friday, Martinez hit for the cycle, the first time a Javelina has done that since 2023. In total on the weekend, Martinez posted a .647 on base percentage and slugged 1.333, driving in seven runs.Â
"Her getting this award, I'm just so proud of her," Head Coach
Orlando Salinas said. "She's coming into her junior season and she's starting to drive the ball, drive in runs, and she's becoming a leader day by day, girls are looking up to her and she's just such a key piece in our program right now."
She becomes the second Javelina to win the award for the first time in their career this season, following sophomore OF
Lainee Ballin, who won it following an explosive week two performance that saw her hit .588 with three home runs.
This marks the first time since 2022 that TAMUK has brought home two LSC Hitter of the Week awards in the same season.
