Javelinas not able to convert late-game attempt, fall to St. Edwards

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not convert on a game-tying attempt late in the ballgame against St. Edward's as it fell, 75-80, Thursday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.

With just 32 seconds left, Bryson Goldsmith would have a game-tying layup attempt after beating his defender off the dribble, but his attempt would get blocked by a Hilltopper (19-4, 8-4 LSC) defender that put the Javelinas (10-11, 7-6 LSC) in desperation mode for the remainder of the contest.

After the Hilltoppers converted on some one-and-one free throw attempts, the Javelinas were able to get a desperation three-pointer converted thanks to a great shot by Jadon Sautter to cut the lead to just a single point. However the Hogs couldn't get their final offensive possession off as St. Edwards hit their final free throws to salt the game away.

The clutch gene of the 2025-26 Javelinas showed itself once again however before the final minute. With just under five minutes to play, the Javelinas dug themselves out of a 10-point hole to bring it to just a two-point game after a Nate Garcia putback layup. The Javelinas would make their next three shots in a row, with Bryson Goldsmith nailing a pair of mid-range jumpers and Garcia getting a nice layup off the glass. St. Edwards matched the Javelina blow for blow however, as they also his three consecutive shots to maintain their two point lead.

Allen Singleton nearly made the defensive play the Javelina needed on the ensuing Hilltopper possession with like 50 seconds to go. The senior from League City, Texas, blocked a Hilltopper layup that would have put them up four, then stole the SEU offensive rebound to give the Javelinas a chance to tie the game.

Daniel Sanchez had a big game for the Javelinas as well, finishing second on the team with 14 points and eight rebounds, his third seven-plus rebound game of his career. The Javelinas were dominant overall on the glass, outrebounding the Hilltoppers by 16 and setting a new team-high this season with 51 rebounds. Today's game was also the most rebounds as a team since the 2021-2022 season.

Goldsmith led the Javelinas with 15 points, Sautter added 13 while Singleton and Garcia each finished in double-figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.Sanchez led the team with eight rebounds with Goldsmith and Bryce Smith each finished with six. Smith, Singleton and James Livingston each finished with three assists as well.

The Javelinas will stay at home to take on St. Mary's University Saturday at 3:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaMBB on X.
