Javelinas Open 2026 Season with Perfect 4-0 Weekend

Kingsville - The Javelinas made a statement to open the 2026 season, going a perfect 4-0 at the Javelina Beach Classic on their home sand in Kingsville. All four wins came against Division I competition, a remarkable start for a program that totaled seven Division I wins all of last season.

Day 1

vs. McNeese

TAMUK took down McNeese 3-2 in a match that came down to the wire. Laura Betsa and Kalani Vasquez got things going at Pair 2, winning a hard-fought three-set battle 21-16, 23-21, 15-10 to give the Javelinas an early advantage. With momentum on their side, Liana Huesca and Rylan Pollard swept Pair 1, 21-19, 21-17 to push the lead. With the match on the line at Pair 3, Emma Daugherty and Kastyn Hoffman rose to the moment, dropping the second set before closing it out in dramatic fashion 23-21 in the third to seal the Javelina victory.

vs. ULM

TAMUK took control early with Betsa and Vasquez sweeping Pair 2, 21-14, 24-22, and Elizabeth Williams and Kate Wozniak delivering a straight-set win at Pair 4, 21-19, 21-18 to give the Javelinas a 2-0 lead after the first wave. With the match already in hand, Kamryn Briggs and Clara Presmanes-Garate put the finishing touch on it at Pair 5, winning a three-set battle 15-21, 21-19, 15-11 to close out the match and cap off a perfect Day 1 for the Javelinas.

Day 2

vs. UTEP

TAMUK dropped Pairs 2 and 4 early before mounting an impressive comeback in the second wave. Huesca and Pollard set the tone at Pair 1, sweeping 21-17, 21-19. Briggs and Presmanes-Garate kept the momentum going at Pair 5, sweeping 21-16, 21-18. Daugherty and Hoffman saved the best for last, closing out the comeback in three sets 21-17, 11-21, 15-11 to complete the 3-2 victory.

vs. Sam Houston State

The Javelinas saved their most dominant performance for last, closing out the tournament with a clean sweep. Betsa and Vasquez set the tone early at Pair 2, sweeping 21-10, 21-17. Williams and Wozniak followed at Pair 4, outlasting their opponents 21-16, 23-21. Huesca and Pollard gutted out a three-set win at Pair 1, 18-21, 21-17, 15-13. Daugherty and Hoffman continued their strong weekend at Pair 3, taking down their opponents 21-19, 21-18. Briggs and Presmanes-Garate capped the perfect weekend at Pair 5, closing it out in three sets 21-9, 19-21, 15-12.

Up next, TAMUK heads to Lake Charles, LA for the McNeese Volleyball Tournament on February 27-28, taking on McNeese, Nicholls, Sam Houston, and New Orleans.
