Kingsville - A late surge in the seventh inning sunk the Javelinas chances at an upset bid in game one of the series against UT-Tyler, 2-8, Friday from Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (7-4, 7-4 LSC) trailed by just a pair of runs heading into the final three frames against the Patriots. However, a four spot by UT-Tyler spearheaded by a bases-clearing triple eventually sunk the Javelinas in the opening game of the series.
Javelinas' ace man
Garrett Nail tossed a gem of a game today, going 4.1 innings with eight K's while allowing just a pair of hits. However, the Patriots were able to get on base against Nail via walks, as the junior from Sweeney, Texas, walked five Patriots in today's contest. These walks directly led to the first run of the game, as UT-Tyler scored the first run of the game after runners got aboard via walks.
The Javelinas even up the game in the third after
Fisher Davis reached via a base hit and was quickly put into scoring position by Johsua Endo with a SAC-bunt.
Braden Duff would bring him in with a FC-RBI for the first run of the game for the Javelinas. UT-Tyler got the run back quickly and then some, however, as a pair of runs would get in by way of a two-RBI single from the Patriots.
Texas A&M-Kingsville got back to work however, and plated another run thanks to another RBI from
Braden Duff, this time scoring
Travis Vlasek after he reached via an error by UT-Tyler. The Javelinas kept themselves in striking distance in the sixth inning thanks to a great defensive effort from
Brian Buchanan kept the Patriots off the board, but eventually the levee broke and UT-Tyler got the runs necessary to put the game out of reach for the Javelinas.
Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to get back in the win column against UT-Tyler in double-header action Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
