Odessa, Tx - Texas A&M-Kingsville crushed UT-Permian Basin, 12-4, in game one of the four-game series at Roden Field on Friday.
The Javelinas (5-2, 5-2 LSC) used 14 hits, six of which were for extra bases, to plate 12 runs to notch the second largest margin of victory this season over the Falcons (2-5, 2-5 LSC). UTPB were held off the scoreboard for five innings after scoring two in the first by the Hogs and only notched one hit during that same stretch.
Only two pitchers saw action in the full nine innings for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Garrett Nail would get the start and get credited with the win after going 5 full innings with five K's while surrendering just two runs and three hits. Nail now extends his lead in strikeouts to 21.
Ruben Rendon III closed out the game for the Javelinas, tossing four complete innings of work with a pair of strikeouts to boot.
UTPB was not so lucky when it came to limiting how deep they went into their bullpen. Six different Falcon pitchers would see action on the mound, with four of them making appearances in the fifth inning when the Javelinas blew the game open. Four Javelinas would get credited with an RBI in Elijah West,
Isaiah Aguilar,
Braden Duff and
Joshua Endo as the Javelinas would bat around the lineup and plate five total runs in said inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
Duff and Endo would particularly have great offensive days for the Javelinas, the junior outfield duo combined for six hits, four RBI's, three doubles and a triple from Duff. Endo also continued his great start to the season, making it three straight games with multiple hits.
The outfield duo were not the only Javelinas to produce offensively, as the team totaled season-highs with 14 hits and five doubles. Endo notched his first double with the first at-bat of the contest, eventually being brought home by
Easton Hewitt.
Landon Salinas also notched a double in the third inning that was once again brought home by Hewitt with an RBI-single to even up the game at 2-2.
Aguiar opened up the fourth with a lead-off double that was cashed in shortly by Duff to retake the lead. Duff would then steal third base before
Fisher Davis sacrificed his bat to bring Duff home to give the Hogs a two-run lead. That would be all the momentum the Javelinas needed as they cruised from that spot to a game one victory.Â
Saturday's double-header is set to begin at 12:00 pm from Roden Field, fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
