Javelinas headed back to Houston for regular season finale

Kingsville - With their regular season winding down, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's and men's track and field teams are headed north to Houston once again, and will compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday.

The Javelinas have put together back-to-back weekends in which they have re-written their recordbooks, setting 36 new top-10 marks in an event in school history. They will hope to continue that run of excellent performances into Friday's meet, which will be the last on TAMUK's schedule before the postseason begins in two weeks with the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM.

"I'm looking forward to the meet this week," Head Coach Ryan Dall said. "We're coming off a good overall performance last weekend so I'm looking forward to seeing more improvement and consistency from the athletes this week as we build up for the conference meet."

In addition to program records, the Javelinas have been climbing the national leaderboard, with the women's team entering Friday's meet holding four top-25 marks in the nation this season and the men holding two. A pair of the women's marks were set this past weekend, both by sophomore sprinter Oneika Brissett, who earned the second LSC Track Athlete of the Week award of her career. A freshman sprinter on the men's side, Ausencio Martinez, also earned the award - the first of his career - for his 21.78 in the 200m, making it a Javelina sweep of the Track side of the LSC's weekly awards. That marks the second time this season that TAMUK has accomplished such a feat.

The Javelinas will be one of 15 teams, competing in the meet. In addition to their hosts, they will be joined by Houston Christian, Huston-Tillotson, Lamar, Louisiana, McNeese, Ouachita Baptist, Our Lady of the Lake, Rice, SFA, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas A&M Texarkana, Texas Southern, and Trinity. TAMUK will be the only D2 competing in the meet.

There will be both live stats and a YouTube live stream of the day's events.
