Tyler, TX – The Javelinas fall to Patriots after hard fought match
The Javelinas fell to the UT-Tyler Patriots in a match that was back and forth until the very end. Texas A&M – Kingsville jumped out early and captured the first set of the match in a 25-23 win. They look poised to take set 2 as they held a 20-16 lead, but UT-Tyler had other plans, as they stormed all the way back to not only tie up the match, but would eventually claim victory in 26-28 fashion. This loss puts the Hogs in sixth for the Lone Star conference as since going 8-1, the team has since gone 1-4 in conference play as they look to lock up a tournament berth.
This match had everything from lead changes, scoring runs, and enough ties to make the crowd never move from the edge of their seats. As with each set both teams scored at least 20. The Javelinas were once again led by freshman star
Cambelle Brammer as she cashed in another 16 kills in this match and was joined by
Natalee Rush and
Alexiah Thompson with at least 11 kills. Rush was also able to muster a .300 hitting percentage. As
Alayna Guerrero pushes past 900 assists, now at 923, with another impressive 47 on the day. As on the defensive side the Javelinas were without
Tayae-Renae Garcia, but multiple Hogs stepped up as
Kamryn Briggs would fill her libero role and racked up 16 digs in the process.
With only three matches left on the season before conference tournaments the Javelinas will look to finish strong as they head to Dallas to take on UT-Dallas. After that they will welcome in No. 5 Angelo St. and UT-Permian Basin to close out the year.
The Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas will head to Richardson for a matchup against the Comets of UT-Dallas, for a special Halloween edition of Javelina Volleyball, starting at 1:00 PM.
