San Angelo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not capture any momentum against Angelo State, falling 28-14 from LeGrand Stadium on Saturday.
The Javelina (4-4, 4-2 LSC) offense gained over 400 yards on the day, but only scored 14 points en route to their second straight conference loss. The Rams (3-5, 3-3 LSC) racked up 288 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns while keeping the Javelina offense on the sideline.
Neither team would get their offense rolling in the first quarter, as the Javelinas and Rams traded punts with each other in the quarter.
Jeremiah Conaway made the first splash play of the game, snagging his first interception of the season. The Javelinas could not capitalize on the opportunity however, as both teams ended the first quarter knotted up at zero.
Angelo State broke the scoreless time to open up the second quarter and would score again late in the quarter with a 74-yard rushing touchdown that put the Javelinas in a hole. Texas A&M-Kingsville tried to respond with a two-minute drive right before halftime, but the Rams intercepted a screen pass from the Javelinas that ended the Javelinas drive.
The third quarter looked like it was going to begin well for the Javelinas, as they would pin the Rams deep in their own territory on the opening kickoff of the second half. Angelo responded however with a 17-play, 92-yard touchdown drive that ate up half the third quarter to go up three scores. The Javelinas could not get a response of their own as they were stopped on downs inside Angelo territory.
Texas A&M-Kingsville caught a glimmer of hope in the fourth quarter, as they scored their first touchdown of the game thanks to a 25-yard touchdown pass from
Mills Dawson to
Nate Barnett. A fourth-down stop with a little over seven minutes to go gave the Javelinas a chance to cut it to a one-possession lead, but Angelo got a fourth down stop and salted the game away with another long touchdown run.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will return home for its homecoming game against Midwestern State. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaFB on X.
