Javelinas lose heartbreaker to Texas A&M-International

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville lost in heartbreaking fashion, 80-81, thanks to a late-game buzzer beater from Texas A&M-International Tuesday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.

The Javelinas (7-8, 5-3 LSC) were clinging on to a 80-79 lead with under seven seconds left, after the Dustdevils (6-10, 3-5 LSC) missed their first game-winning attempt, they were able to secure a tip in layup just as time expired to steal the win away from the Javelinas in Kingsville.

Late game heroics were not just going the way of the Dustdevils, as Senior Guard Allen Singleton had a masterful performance inside the SPEC. The native of League City started the game a perfect 8-8 including going 5-5 from behind the arc. One of his threes came with just 50 second left that seemingly iced the game, however TAMIU was able to get an and-one on the other side to make it just a one-point game.

The final three minutes of the contest was a fully fledged back-and-forth affair, as each team traded momentum with each other with game-changing buckets. It kicked off with Jamir Turner, whose and-one layup and converted free-throw tied the game at 72. International immediately responded with a layup of their own, but Singleton came up clutch again with another three-pointer to take back the lead.

Texas A&M-International, once again, would respond with an-and-one layup of their own before David Oriaku snatched momentum back for the Javelinas with an-and-one layup of his own to retake the lead for the Javelinas. A pair of missed free throws from the Dustdevils were capped off by a Turner rebound before Allen's late three-pointer.

Singleton led the Javelinas with 21 points, Nate Garcia had a monster game with 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Turner and Bryson Goldsmith each finished with 12 points as well. Goldsmith and Bryce Smith each finished with 4 assists as well.

Texas A&M-Kingsville heads back on the road for a rematch against Texas A&M-International on Saturday. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at Javelina MBB on X.
