Javelinas head to Silver City for matchup against Western New Mexico

Silver City, NM – Texas A&M-Kingsville heads west of the border to take on red-hot Western New Mexico from Drag's Court on Thursday.

The Javelinas (9-9, 6-4 LSC) are coming off a pair of wins against Angelo State that came down to the final seconds of the contest. The wins positioned the Javelinas in a four-way tie in the Lone Star Conference standings for the final four spots in the LSC tournament. The Mustangs (14-4, 8-3 LSC) are having an exceptional season however, sitting as the current No. 3 seed in the conference and more than doubling last-season's win total.

Assisting in this revelation of a season for the Mustangs is their defense from beyond the arc, as they hold their opposition to a conference best 28.8-percent shooting on three-point attempts. The Javelinas however have been more-and-more efficient from beyond the arc, spearheaded by Allen Singleton who has hit three-or-more three-pointers in three of his last four games.

The Javelinas also saw a resurgence in their defensive production in their two wins over Angelo State, holding the Rams below 65 points in both contests. The 65 points mark is still the magic number for Texas A&M-Kingsville, who is 7-1 win holding their opponents under that point value. Clutch situations also seem to not phase the Javelinas, as they went 5-5 in the final five minutes in the first matchup against Angelo, then hit a game-winner thanks to a layup from Bryce Smith in the second matchup against the Rams.

What has been helping the Javelinas in these clutch scenarios has been the offensive rebounding. Currently, Texas A&M-Kingsville is fifth in the conference with 11.9 offensive boards per game. Nate Garcia and Jamir Turner spearhead the effort for the Javelinas, with each of them eclipsing the 20 offensive rebound mark this season.

Tip-off for Thursday's contest is set for 8:00 pm CST.  Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaMBB on X.
