Kingsville - After winning a nailbiter earlier in the week, Texas A&M-Kingsville returns home for a rematch against Angelo State at the Steinke Physical Education Center on Saturday.
The Javelinas (8-9, 5-4 LSC) nailed their final five shots of the game while holding the Rams (12-9, 3-7 LSC) to 2-of-12 to close out a much-needed win at the Junell Center. Now, Texas A&M-Kingsville will look to put back-to-back wins up over Angelo State before heading into the final 10 games of their season.Â
Saturday's game will also be military appreciation day for Javelina Basketball, where all active and retired military personnel will get free entry into the SPEC.
The previous matchup between the Javelinas and Rams saw a return to form for the Texas A&M-Kingsville defense, who held Angelo State to under 65 points and just under 40-percent shooting from the floor. The defense also forced 12 turnovers, and were able to convert those turnovers into 16 points. Spearheading the effort was
Allen Singleton, who posted his third 3-plus steal game of the season by swiping three balls away from Angelo State.
Singleton was not just effective on the defensive end however, as the combination of Singleton and
TJ Ford Jr. posted 40 of the Javelinas 67 total points last contest. Ford was especially effective in the last game against Angelo, scoring 20-plus points for the second time this season. However it was his efficiency that was vital for the Javelinas, scoring 22 points on 70-percent shooting.
One advantage that Angelo was able to gain in the previous matchup was on the glass, as the Rams outrebounded the Javelinas 35 to 27. To combat this, the Javelinas will look to
Nate Garcia to continue his excellent play over his last three games. The senior from Kingsville has started each of the last three contests and led the Javelinas in rebounding in each game, averaging just over six rebounds a game.
Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 3:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollge or follow the game at JavelinaMBB in X.
