Javelinas looking for a bounce back performance against Angelo State

San Angelo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks for a bounce back performance as it hits the road to take on Angelo State Wednesday from the Junell Center.

The Javelinas (7-9, 4-4 LSC) are looking to get back in the win column in the Lone Star Conference after dropping their previous three contests. Meanwhile, the Rams (12-8, 3-6 LSC) are looking to do much the same as they have dropped four of their last five contests.

In order to get back to their winning ways, the Javelinas will need to get back to their early-season defense. Over their last five contests, the Javelinas have allowed 70-or-more points four different times, with three of those teams eclipsing the 80-point mark as well. In victories, the Javelinas held their opponents to under 65 points outside of two contests (South Dakota Mines 11/14, Cameron 1/2).

To get their defense back on track, the Javelinas will look to sophomore forward David Oriaku to keep his positive momentum going. Oriaku leads the Javelinas with 19 blocked shots this season, including a pair of four-block contests. His offensive game is starting to heat up as well, back-to-back eight point outings off the bench against Texas A&M-International were the most points Oriaku has scored in back-to-back contests since November against South Dakota Mines and MSU-Denver.

The Javelinas will also need a big game point guard Bryce Smith in order to come away with a victory over the Rams. Smith has scored in double figures four times this season and leads the team with 49 assists, however ball security will be crucial for Smith and the rest of the Javelinas. Angelo State forces just over 13 turnovers a game while scoring around 17 points per game off of said turnovers.

Tip-off for Wednesday's action is set for 7:30 pm from the Junell Center, fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaMBB on X.
