1967 Javelina Football Team to be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville announced on Wednesday that the 1967 Javelina Football Team will be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame.

The 1967 team is the sixth of seven inductees to be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame, with each subsequent inductee being announced each week until August 13th.

One of the greatest teams to ever play for Texas A&M-Kingsville, the 1967 team was the first Javelina team to win every game on their schedule, going a perfect 9-0 that season. The Javelina would take home the Lone Star Conference crown that season, making it their fourth LSC title in program history.

During the year, the Javelina defense allowed just 76 points on defense, their lowest up to that point since the 1962 season. Texas A&M-Kingsville would allow 10 points or fewer six times that season and opened the season allowing 10 points across their first three games against McNeese State, Trinity and Stephen F. Austin.

Notable to their 1967 schedule was the season finale, where the Javelinas would take down the No. 1 team in NAIA Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University), 23-21, in an all-time classic with 17,500 fans in attendance at Javelina Stadium.

That season the Javelinas would have five first-team All-Conference players in Dwayne Nix, Carlos Saldana, future NFL draft pick Butch Riley, Larry Pulin and future NFL First-Round pick James Hill. Nix would also be named an Associated Press Little All-American for the second time in his career, making him one of six Javelinas to be named a two-time All-American.
