Kingsville - Texas A&M - Kingsville Athletic Department announced that former Javelina Baseball great Juan Sanchez is set to be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2025.
Sanchez is the third of seven inductees to be inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame, with each subsequent inductee being announced each week until August 13th.
Despite only playing one season with the Javelinas, Sanchez left an incredible mark on the baseball program. Sanchez lead the team to their first Lone Star Conference championship in the 1995 season, just two years after the program's inception in 1993. The 1995 Javelina Baseball team is also in the Javelina Hall of Fame.
Individually, Sanchez was nothing short of spectacular for the Hogs, being named the program's first even All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the first South-Central Regional Player of the Year and the first all-region first team player in Javelina Baseball history. Sanchez was also recognized as the LSC Player of the Year and a first team all-conference player.
Sanchez's legacy still remains to this day, as he still holds many records in the Javelina Baseball record. Sanchez holds the record for the single-season slugging percentage (.907) and OPS (1.435) as well as the single-game record for runs scored (3/31/1995 vs Central Oklahoma, 4/2/1995 vs Central Oklahoma), triples and home runs (4/2/1995 vs Central Oklahoma). Sanchez's home run record was tied for the LSC single-game record as well, until it was broken this season by Lubbock Christian's Brevin McCool.
In totality, Sanchez finished the 1995 season with a .439 batting average while notching 49 RBI's. Sanchez also added 16 doubles, nine triples and 14 home runs.Â
