Laredo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville completed the series sweep over Texas A&M-International with a 6-5 victory Sunday at Jorge Haynes Field.
The Javelinas (23-19, 22-18 LSC) found themselves in the 5-5 tie after the Dustdevils (11-27, 10-16 LSC) plated four runs in the sixth inning.
Jacob Cueva would get a double down the right field line that would set up an E6 that got Cueva home for what would become the game winning run.
The combination of
Jessie Moreno,
Daniel Cardona and
Ulises Quiroga then tossed three shutout innings for the Hogs to close out the game. It would not be without drama however, as TAMIU had the tying run on third base in the seventh. However the Hogs got out of the jam thanks to a double play initiated by
Maurice Martinez.
Get away started about as well as the Hogs hoped, as the Dustdevils hit three of the first four Javelinas batters. Another walk from the Dustdevils, courtesy of
Damian Carreon, got the Hogs on the board first.
Joshua Endo added to the lead in the second with a SAC-fly RBI to get the lead to two runs, but TAMIU got that run back to keep it a one-run game.
Inning number three would be where the Hogs would do their most damage, as
Vincent Sanchez and Cueva got brought home thanks to a two-RBI single from
Jayden Martinez. The Javelinas then kept the Dustdevils off the board thanks to good pitching from
Karson Shepherd, who went five innings with three K's and allowed just one run, which was not earned.
Another run came across the plate in the sixth after Maurice singled to second base that brought
Cian Garza home. Despite the ensuing Dustdevil rally, the Javelinas would close the game out and get the sweep.
After its bye week, the Javelinas will return hope for the last home series of the season against St. Edward's University. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
