Corpus Christi, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville finished the Islander Classic 2-2 after splitting their matches against Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston on Saturday.
The Javelinas (18-10) dropped the opening match of day two in a close, 2-3 match against the Lumberjacks before closing out their tournament run with an emphatic 5-0 match against the Bearkats. The Javelinas now inch closer to matching their season-high in wins, needing just two more.
Match one vs SFA:
The Javelinas kicked off day two with a close match against SFA, getting off on the right foot with
Meghan Stiefer and
Emma Daugherty picking up a 21-12, 21-18 win.
Madelyn Wallace and
Kalani Vasquez picked up another win for the Javelinas as well, winning 19-21, 21-18, 15-12 in the two's flight to go up 2-0.
Round two of matches would not be as fortunate for the Hogs, as SFA would take the next two matches even after
Taylor McCarthy and
Laura Betsa pushed it to a set three.
Rylan Pollard and
Liana Huesca battled well, but fell short as the Hogs dropped the first match to the Lumberjacks.
Match two vs SHSU:
Match two was as dominant as the Javelinas have looked all season. Stiefer and Daughterty once again got the party started with a 21-7, 21-8 win. Not to be outdone, Wallace and Vasquez took down their opponents in a 21-15, 21-11 match win.
Clara Presmanes-Garate and
Elizabeth Williams were up next, taking down the Bearkats 21-4, 21-10 to secure the match win. Just to add the icing on top, the one's and three's flight both won their matches 21-18, 21-13 and 21-14, 21-12 respectively as the Hogs took match two.
