Gulf Shores, Ala. - Texas A&M-Kingsville took both pool play matches to kick off the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association Small-College championship on Thursday.
The Javelinas (23-11) took down both Southern Baptist University and Florida Southern College in straight sets to advance to the next round of the AVCA small-college championships. The Javelinas will now take on Saint Leo University to have the potential to advance to the gold bracket.
Match one vs SBU:
At the AVCA tournament, games are decided based on the first team to win three flights in the match, therefore certain flights were not scored.
Match one was a dominant win for the Hogs, as each pair won in straight sets. 
Laura Betsa and 
Taylor McCarthy got the day started for the Hogs with a 21-8, 21-11. 
Clara Presmanes-Garate and 
Elizabeth Williams were not too far behind, securing a 21-9, 21-14 win. 
Meghan Stiefer and 
Emma Daugherty wrapped up the first match with a 21-6, 21-18 win to dust SBU off to get win number one on the board.
Match two vs FSC:
The second match of pool play for the Javelinas featured much more drama than the first match, despite it still ending in a 3-0 win for the Hogs. Presmanes-Garate and Williams were pushed to a three-set flight but managed to come out with a 21-18, 17-21, 15-11 win. 
Kalani Vasquez and 
Madelyn Wallace came out with a 22-20, 21-14 win. To wrap up the match, 
Rylan Pollard and 
Liana Huesca earned a 23-21, 21-19 win to make it a clean 3-0 for the Hogs.
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the first challenge round against Saint Leo University tomorrow with first serve at 11:15 am.
