Cheer places fifth at Nationals

Daytona, FL - At the NCA and NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona this weekend, the Texas A&M - Kingsville Cheerleading team took fifth place in the Division II Spirit Rally.

Scoring 90.70 out of the 100 possible points in the team finals competition, Kingsville finished within just three points of repeating its runner-up finish from a year ago. The Javelinas' overall event score of 90.9500 was just 0.0625 points from surpassing Lone Star Conference foe UT - Tyler, who finished in fourth.

Of the nine categories that the scoring is split up into for the competition's prelims, TAMUK finished highest in Skill Incorporation, with a 9.50 (out of 10), the second-highest in the nation. The team's score in Crowd Appeal, Effective Props, and Crowd Res. Tech. were all third-best in the nation to help lift the team to a third-place finish in the prelims behind only Lindenwood in second the eventual National Champions, Oklahoma Baptist.
