Conaway, AR. - Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball set a new program record with its 21st win today and finished the UCA Invitational with a 3-1 record on Saturday.
The Javelinas (21-11) took down Hendrix College in a 5-0 sweep to set a new all-time record for wins in a season for the Beach Volleyball program. The last time the Javelinas secured 20 wins was the 2018 season, where they would go on to win the AVCA Small College National Championship.Â
Overall, the Javelinas wrapped up the final tournament of the regular season with a 3-1 record, beating the aforementioned Warriors before dropping their final match of the tournament to UT-Martin 1-4. Yesterday the Javelinas went 2-0 with wins over Hendrix and Central Arkansas.
Match one vs Hendrix College:
Similar to the previous matchup, it was all Texas A&M-Kingsville from the jump.
Meghan Stiefer and
Emma Daugherty got the party started with a 21-10, 21-6 win in the four's flight while
Kendall Harrington and
Kalani Vasquez got another win for the Hogs with a 21-7, 21-19 win in the two's flight.
In round two, the Hogs kept up their winning ways with straight sets across the board.
Clara Presmanes-Garate and
Elizabeth Williams got it started with a 21-11, 21-14 win in the five's flight,
Taylor McCarthy and
Laura Betsa followed suit with a 21-8, 21-16 win in the three's flight.
Rylan Pollard and
Liana Huesca wrapped up the sweep with a 21-0 (due to forfeit), 21-12 win to finish off the sweep.
Match two vs UT-Martin:
In the Hogs' final match of the tournament, the Skyhawks came out the gates swinging taking the first two flights over the Javelinas. Stiefer and Daugherty did push it to a third set, but fell 15-12 in the final set of the four's flight. In round two, Pollard and Huesca got a 21-14, 21-17 win but it would not be enough as the Skyhawks took the final two flights to win the match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville wraps up their season at the AVCA Small-College Championships next week. The Javelina's schedule is set to be released tomorrow for pool play of the tournament.
