Irvine, CA. - Texas A&M-Kingsville finished off the Concordia Invitational with a 2-2 record after splitting its matches on day two of the tournament.
The Javelinas (16-8) began their day by taking down the Master's University in a 3-2 match before eventually falling 1-4 to host school Concordia University-Irvine. This comes after the Javelinas wrapped up day one of the tournament with a 1-1 record after beating Vanguard University and falling to Division I CSU-Northridge.
Match one vs the Master's University:
Starting off the day against the Mustangs, the Javelinas got straight to work in the first group of matches.
Kalani Vasquez and
Madelyn Wallace continued their excellent tournament run with a 21-12, 21-19 win in the two's flight.
Meghan Stiefer and
Emma Daugherty got their first win of the tournament as well, finishing off the Master's in a 21-18, 16-21, 23-21 win.
Needing just one more win to seal up the match, the Mustangs added some drama with wins in the three's and one's flight to even up the match score.
Elizabeth Williams and
Clara Presmanes-Garate were undeterred however, and got a dramatic 21-19, 20-22, 15-11 win to seal the match.
Match two vs CUI:
Facing off against the host-Golden Eagles, the Javelinas could not get a similar result as they did in the first match of the day. Wallace and Vasquez would pick up the lone win for the Hogs in the two's flight with a 21-16, 11-21, 16-14 win over CUI, but that would be it for Texas A&M-Kingsville as they bowed out of the tournament with a 2-2 record.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to the Lone Star State for the Islander Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi April 4-5 starting at 8:00 am.
