Vancouver, CA - Former star defensive tackle
Xavier Henderson was extended a contract by the Canadian Football League team B.C. Lions the team announced on Tuesday.
Henderson, a Houston Texas native, was a two-time first team all-conference selection in the Lone Star Conference (2023, 2024) and spearheaded one of the best defenses in the conference over those seasons. The 6'1" 320 lbs defensive tackle finished his career with 153 total tackles, 24 TFL's and 8.5 sacks, adding six pass deflections, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.Â
In his time with the Javelinas, Henderson's defensive line unit has been consistently dominant especially against the run. Over the past two seasons, the Hogs allowed just 109.2 rushing yards per game, good for the best in the conference over that stretch of time. Henderson was also part of three straight seven-win seasons, the last time the Javelinas went on such a streak was from 2008-2010.
The B.C. Lions were founded in 1954 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Winners of six Grey Cups and 12 Division titles, the Lions are currently on a three-season streak of making the postseason. Last season, the Lions would reach the CFL semi-finals before falling to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 28-19.
Javelina Football kicks off the 2025 season and the
Scott Parr era at home against Lincoln University on Sept. 6 and kicks off the centenial year celebration for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
