Elmwood, LA - Texas A&M-Kingsville split its opening matches at the Bayou Beach Duals hosted by Tulane University on Friday.

The Javelinas (14-4) opened up the tournament with a tough 5-0 loss to the host Green Waves before bouncing back in a tight 4-1 victory over Spring Hills College. Heading into day two of the tournament, the Javelinas will take on another Division I opponent in Utah before a rematch against Spring Hills College closes out their tournament.

Match one vs Tulane:
Kicking the Bayou Beach Duals off, the Javelinas were not able to get in their groove against the Green Waves. Tulane handled the Hogs with a 10-0 set score, and even though the Javelinas got within striking distance in the one's and four's flight, it was not enough in the opening match of the day.

Match two vs Spring Hills College:
Match two featured much more drama for the Javelinas compared to match one. Emma Daugherty and Meghan Stiefer picked up the first win of the match for the Javelinas, closing it out with a dramatic 27-25 victory in set two to get the match started. Madelyn Wallace and Kalani Vasquez picked up a three-set victory, 21-18, 21-19 and 16-14 to go up 2-0.

The second flight was equally as dramatic as the first, with the Javelinas picking up a pair of three-set victories to close out the match. Laura Betsa and Taylor McCarthy secured a 16-21, 21-19 and 15-9 victory in the three's match while Elizabeth Williams and Clara Presmanes-Garate picked up a 12-21, 21-15 and 15-13 victory to secure the match for the Hogs.

Day two of the Bayou Beach Invitational kicks off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CST against Utah.
