Nacogdoches, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville finished its run at the Ax'em Invitational with a 3-1 record after splitting their matches on Saturday.
Although the Javelinas (13-3) saw their winning streak come to a close on Saturday, they did pick up another Division I win over McNeese state after a lighting delay pushed the game back. The Javelinas did not have similar luck against host school Stephen F. Austin however, as the Lumberjacks ended what was a nine duel win streak.
Match one vs McNeese State:
Clara Presmanes-Garate and
Elizabeth Williams got the duel off on the right foot for the Javelinas, winning the first match 21-14 and 21-10. McNeese answered right back however, knotting the duel up at one match each.
Taylor McCarthy and
Laura Betsa got a win in the three's match to put the duel on match point. Securing the duel for the Javelinas was
Rylan Pollard and
Liana Huesca, who took home a 23-21, 21-18 victory to get the Hogs their third win of the Invitational.
Match two vs SFA:
The second duel of day two for the Javelinas did not get off to a great start, as the Lumberjacks were able to pick up the first two matches with straight sets.
Madelyn Wallace and
Emma Daugherty picked up a win in the two's match, winning 21-16 and 21-14 to make it a 1-2 game. The Javelinas could not get anything else going however, dropping the three's and one's match to fall for the first time at the Invitational.
Texas A&M-Kingsville travels outside the state of Texas for the first time next week as they travel east to Louisiana for the Bayou Beach Duels hosted by Tulane University.
