Nacogdoches, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville extended their winning streak on day one of the Axe'em Invitational on Friday.
The Javelinas (12-2), winners of six matches in a row, took down both the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and Division I foe Sam Houston. These wins mark the third consecutive win over the Crusaders this season and the first ever win against the newly-founded Bearkat beach volleyball program.
Duel one of the day saw the Javelinas get into a tightly contested match against UMHB. Both the five's and four's for the Crusaders would pick up three-set victories, including handing
Meghan Stiefer and
Emma Daugherty their first loss of the season (21-16, 19-21, 15-13). However the Javelinas handled the three's, two's and one's flight, ultimately sealing the victory after
Rylan Pollard and
Liana Huesca secured a 25-23, 21-17 victory over the Crusaders.Â
The second duel of the day saw a dominant, 5-0 victory for the Javelinas over Sam Houston. This was the first time the two programs have faced off against each other in each of the programs histories, and is the third Division I score that Texas A&M-Kingsville have faced  off against this season.
Day two of the Axe'em Invitational kicks off for the Javelinas at 8:00 am against McNeese University.
