Kingsville - Texas &M-Kingsville bounced back in a big way on day two of the Javelina Beach Showdown, winning both of their matches 4-1 on Saturday.
The Javelinas (6-2) took down both Wayland Baptist and Division I foe Tarleton State on at the Javelina Beach Courts. This marks the second time that Texas A&M-Kingsville faced off against WBU and Tarleton, each time resulting in a win for the Javelinas.
Saturday also served as senior day for the Javelinas, as they honored
Delaney Evans,
Taylor McCarthy and
Madelyn Wallace in between matches.
Match one vs Tarleton State:
The first match of day two got off to a great start for the Javelinas, as
Meghan Stiefer and Emma Daughtery took down the Texans 24-22, 14-21 and 15-13 on court two in flight one.
Kalani Vasquez and Wallace also got a set three win, 21-16, 19-21 and 15-11 to get the Javelinas in a 2-0 lead.
Flight two would be where the Javelinas made their push for the win, as
Elizabeth Williams and
Clara Presmanes-Garate would win in three sets, 21-17, 20-22 and 15-12 to give the Javelinas the match.
Laura Betsa and McCarthy added another win for good measure, taking down the Texans in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-17.
Match two vs Wayland Baptist:
Match two's first flight was less dramatic than in the first match of the day, as Stiefer and Daughtery handled business against Wayland with a 21-16 and 22-20 match. Vasquez and Wallace were dominant in their match, winning 21-8 and 21-10 to get the contest to a 2-0 score.
In flight two, Evans got her first start at the five pair for the Javelinas, but ultimately fell in her match. Betsa and McCarthy picked up the slack however, winning the match for the Javelinas with a 21-16 and 21-17 win over Wayland.
Rylan Pollard and
Liana Huesca got one more win in for good measure, winning 21-13 and 21-13 in their match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville hits the road for the first time this season as they head to the UMHB Spring Splash Mar. 6-7. The first match for the Javelinas will be against East Texas Baptist University Mar. 6 at 8:00 am.
