Lawton, OK - Texas A&M-Kingsville scored 18 points in the final five minutes to take down Cameron, 75-64, Saturday at the Aggies Gym.
Allen Singleton scored 10 of his career-best 23 points within the final 5:37 of the contest as the Javelinas (10-13, 6-10 LSC) used a late push to avenge an previous loss to the Aggies (8-15, 5-13 LSC) earlier in the season. It was also the first time that both Singleton and
Isaiah Payne each scored 20 points in their careers with Payne's 20 point performance.
Payne also had a career moment today, reaching 1,000-career points after a made 3-pointer early in the second half.
The guard play from the Javelinas late in the game was the key reason as to how the Javelinas pulled away from Cameron. Down by three points with 4:39 to go, Payne, Singleton and
Bryson Goldsmith powered the Javelina offense that did not miss a shot down the stretch. The defense also allowed just four points in that same time frame and forced a pair of Aggie turnovers.
Overall, the contest was a back-and-forth affair from both teams. It was not until the final 5 minutes that either team had a lead over five points. Contributing to Texas A&M-Kingsville's tenaciousness this game was the play of the bench. Outscoring Cameron 29-21, the Javelinas got big contributions from
David Oriaku and
Daniel Sanchez.Â
Singleton led the way with 23 points, Payne finished with his seventh 20-point game with exactly 20 points, Goldsmith also finished in double-figures with 12 while leading the team in rebounds with six.
Nate Lacewell would contribute a game-high three blocks as well.
Texas A&M-Kingsville heads back on the road next week to take on UT-Tyler on Feb. 13. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
