Laredo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville crushed Texas A&M-International on Wednesday, 15-3, in seven innings at Jorge Haynes Field.
The Javelinas (5-4, 4-4 LSC) never trailed or were never in danger of trailing against the Dust Devils (4-5, 4-4 LSC) in one of two non-conference games against each other.
Zach Westbrook earned the win in this one, going two innings and surrendering just two hits and one run.
Offense was the name of the game for the Hogs from the opening pitch, as the Javelinas would score four runs on three hits in the top of the first.
Isaiah Aguilar got the party started with an RBI-double after
Joshua Endo walked.
Vincent Sanchez would bring in another run with an RBI-triple followed by a
Jacob Cueva SAC-RBI.
Nick Reyes capped things off his first home run of the season to give the Hogs four in the first.
After TAMUI got one back to close out the first, neither team got anything going in the second. Texas A&M-Kingsville got some insurance runs in with two RBI's from Cueva and Reyes as the Dust Devils got another run back as the game was set at 6-2 after three.
With the game still not out of reach for the Dust Devils,
Jose Gonzalez was called onto the mound and slammed the door on any offense that TAMUI hoped to have. Three-straight strikeouts for the senior from Laredo closed out the fourth with the score maintaining its status.
Landon Salinas drove in another run in the fifth to increase the Javelinas' lead to 7-2. It would be the sixth inning for the Javelinas where they would do their most damage. Texas A&M-Kingsville scored six runs on four hits and two errors from TAMUI. Aguilar, Sanchez, Reyes and Salinas all notched RBI's as the Javelinas took complete control of the game.
Aguilar and Sanchez were not done with the Dust Devils however, as they would each secure two more RBI's in the top of the seventh to expand the lead to 15-2. Texas A&M-International was able to get a run in the seventh, but it was not enough to extend the game as the Javelinas would run-rule the Dust Devils in seven
