San Antonio, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville fell short against Lone Star Conference opponent in non-conference action St. Mary's University, 56-74, Friday at Bill Greehey Arena.
The Javelinas (5-6, 2-2 LSC) held the Rattlers (9-2, 3-1 LSC) to a 42 shooting percentage, however the Rattlers out-rebounded the Javelinas on the glass by 18 rebounds. It was a slow start offensively for both teams in the first half, but the Rattlers would find their groove in the second half out scoring the Javelinas 49-48.
With the slow start the Javelinas were able to jump out to an early 10-9 lead with a KC Udolisa and-one layup and conversion at the charity stripe. The team would fall into a shooting slump after that, only able to cash-in seven points in the final 12 minutes of the first half.
Although the Hogs strong defense would keep them in the game. Holding the Rattlers to 8-31 shooting from the field, Texas A&M-Kingsville would find themselves trailing going into halftime 17-26.
Into the second half the Javelinas were able to cut into the lead with a Daniel Sanchez made-layup with a dish from Allen Singleton to cut the lead by six. Both Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Mary's would go back and forth in the second half, with the Rattlers not quite able to pull away. Eventually, the Javelinas found themselves by nine after a tip-in layup by Bryson Goldsmith halfway through the second.
Then following a three-point make by the Rattlers Sebastian Mendoza to push the lead to 14 points with a score of 54-40 with six minutes left in the second. The Rattlers would then go on a 20-16 run to end the game. Hogs falling to the Rattlers by 18.
Udolisa finished with a team-high 11 points, and Goldsmith finished with 10 of his own. Udolisa would also have a team-high five boards and Caleb Carr added two blocks to his statline.
