Kingsville - With two regular season games left on its slate in the calendar year, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team will be travelling to San Antonio for an exhibition matchup with the Division One University of Texas - San Antonio Roadrunners on Monday at 11:00 a.m..
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+
here, as opposed to the Javelinas' usual home on FloSports. Live Stats will be available
here. As the Javelinas look for the first win of their season, a matchup against the Roadrunners provides a key opportunity for the young roster to improve and gel together early in the season.
"At the end of the day, it's a practice for us, but against someone else," Head Coach
Michael Madrid said. "We won't play anyone as good as UTSA the remainder of the year, so having the opportunity to work on things against someone else is always beneficial."
The team's last contests against division one opponents came in the 2023-24 season, when Madrid and the Javelinas faced off with Texas Christian University and the University of Texas - El Paso in a pair of early-season bouts.
The Roadrunners are 3-5 on the season and enter the weekend coming off of a pair of losses, to UNLV and No.14/15 Baylor. They will have one more matchup between now and their contest with the Javelinas - a game against Prairie View A&M at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
"Our goal in these situations is to win possessions," Madrid said. "Execute on both ends of the floor and improve. We will get exposed in many ways and that is a good thing. Thankful to UTSA for giving us this opportunity."
