Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville continues their homestand against South Eastern Oklahoma State Saturday from the Steinke Physical Education Center at 2:00 pm.
The Javelinas (2-1) are coming off an incredibly dominant performance against MSU-Denver on Thursday, beating the Roadrunners 92-61. Thursday's contest was the first time the Javelinas scored over 90 points since the 2022-23 season, when they took down Minnesota Crookston 91-63.Â
Now, the Javelinas look to maintain the momentum gained from Thursday's win against the Savage Storm (0-3), who are looking for their first win of the season after dropping their last matchup to Lone Star Conference foe St. Mary's University.Â
Southeastern's team is powered by redshirt-junior guard Santiago Camacho Gomez, who is averaging a team-high 12.7 points per game on 50/30/85 splits. Redshirt-Junior guard Ethan Scott made his debut for Southeastern in their previous game as well, scoring 12 points in 22 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, the Javelinas have received a massive contribution from big man
David Oriaku, who is averaging 10.3 points per game while leading the LSC in total blocks (eight). Oriaku also leads the Javelinas in rebounds with six per game. The sophomore from Frisco, Texas, isn't the only major defensive contributor for the Javelinas however. The backcourt duo of
Bryce Smith and
Bryson Goldsmith have been hounding opposing offensive players all season, leading the team in steals with seven and six respectively.
Holistically, the Javelina defense has been the anchor for the team's early success. Texas A&M-Kingsville is allowing the second-lowest opponent field-goal percentage by .001 while also having the second highest turnover margin (10.33). They also lead the conference in assist to turnover ratio at 1.83.
Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 2:00 pm from the SPEC. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game live on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaMBB on X.
