Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville opened up the 2025-26 season in dominant fashion, taking down North American University 74-44 Monday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas forced 23 turnovers and allowed the Stallions to shoot just 30 percent from the floor to get win number one on the new season. Three different Javelinas secured multiple steals, leading to the Javelinas scoring 22 points off of turnovers.
Jamir Turner led the way with 16 points and six rebounds,
TJ Ford Jr. added 11 points off the bench and
Allen Singleton scored 10. Turner and
Bryce Smith each finished with a team-high six boards while Smith led the team in assists (5) and steals (4).
Monday's contest started off slow for the Javelinas, as North American got out in front by four through the early goings. The offense for the Hogs eventually got rolling through the first, as Ford would lead an offensive spark through the first half, scoring all 11 of his points in the period to give the Javelinas a 17 points lead at the half.
The defense began to dominate in the second half, securing 11 turnovers and outrebounding the Stallions by 15. The Hogs allowed just five made baskets in the second half, one of which was the only three-pointer that North American made all game.
