Kingsville, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to the friendly confines of Javelina Stadium for homecoming to take on Western Oregon Saturday at 7:00 pm.
The Javelinas (3-4, 2-3 LSC) are coming off a tough loss to No. 10 Central Washington in which they had a chance at the end to tie or take the lead, but could not get the job done in the waning minutes in Ellensburg. Now, the Javelinas will take on a Wolves (5-2, 4-1 LSC) that's coming off its biggest win of the season against national ranked UTPB.
It will be the first time since 2022 that the Javelinas have hosted Western Oregon and are looking to keep their good fortunes going against the Wolves as they have won the previous two matchups in Monmouth.
Western Oregon will present similar challenges that Central Washington does, as they have the fourth best rushing attack in the conference. WOU runningback Jermaine Land leads the way with 401 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Javelinas also have a feature back however, as true freshman
Edward Chumley currently sits third in the conference in rushing yards and has scored a touchdown in every game he's played.
The Wolves have been opportunistic and efficient this season, as they rank first in interceptions and first in TD percentage in the red zone. Quarterback
Jack Turner will need to continue his efficient play, as the transfer from Louisiana Tech has already eclipsed 2,000 yards passing this season.
Turner is also nearing a historic mark for Javelina Football, as if he averages 250 yards per game, he will become the first quarterback in program history to throw for 3,000 yards. Turner is 757 yards away from breaking the single-season passing record held by Billy Garza (2,787 yards).
On the other side of the ball, the defense is beginning to return to form after early-season struggles. The Hogs' defense currently has at least one sack in each of their last seven games, with
Tre Robbins leading the way with four sacks.
Kickoff for Saturday's contest is set for 7:00 pm from Kingsville. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaFB on X.
