Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Javelinas can not hold on against Western New Mexico

Silver City, NM. - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not hold on to a ten-point lead late in the second half as it fell to Western New Mexico, 78-73, Thursday at Drag's Court.

The Javelinas (8-10, 4-8 Lone Star Conference) were leading the Mustangs (4-14, 3-9 LSC) 64-54 with just over nine minutes left in the game. Western New Mexico would then open up a 11-2 run to retake the lead with four minutes to go. Texas A&M-Kingsville offense could not generate the necessary offense to close the game out, and eventually fell to the Mustangs.

The entire game was a closely contested affair between the two games, especially thanks to the Mustangs early shooting from deep. Western New Mexico made four of their first five 3-pointers, however the Javelinas kept it close with threes from Allen Singleton, Nate Lacewell and Jordan Henderson.

As the first half wore on, the Javelinas were able to keep the Mustangs at bay thanks to key buckets from Henderson and Jake Arnold. However, despite holding Western New Mexico to just 27.59 percent shooting from the floor, the Javelinas held just a two-point lead at halftime.

The second half kicked off with an offensive flurry, as each team hit 50 points in under five minutes in the second half. The Javelinas would eventually break the tie with a Bryson Goldsmith and-one, then a Zyon Little 3-pointer, a Nate Garcia jumper then another Goldsmith jumper gave the Javelinas a 10-point lead. However, Western New Mexico did not go quietly, and used a late rally to take the win.

Singleton scored a team-high 14 points, Lacewell contributed 13 points and Little finished with 12. Henderson led the team with six rebounds and James Livingston notched a team-high six assists.

Texas A&M-Kingsville finishes the road trip back in Texas as it takes on Sul Ross State at 3:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on Flosports or follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
