Silver City, NM - Texas A&M-Kingsville hits the road this week to take on Western New Mexico Thursday night at Drag's Court.
The Javelinas (8-9, 4-7 Lone Star Conference) are coming off a four-game home stretch where they would finish 2-2. Taking down Oklahoma Christina and UT-Tyler and falling to ranked Dallas Baptist and falling just short against Cameron University. Now with just 11 games left, Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to build some momentum against the Mustangs (3-14, 2-9 LSC).
Western New Mexico offensively is led by one of the most dangerous guards in the conference in Matthew Okoye. The Stephen F. Austin transfer has only played in eight games this season, but has averaged 18.1 points per game in those games. Okoye is coming off a 31-point performance against Eastern New Mexico, tied for the fifth-highest single game outing in the LSC this season.
While the Mustangs possess one of the better guards in the conference, the Javelinas might boast one of the best collections of guards in the conference. The combination of
Isaiah Payne,
Allen Singleton,
Bryson Goldsmith,
Jake Arnold and
James Livingston have all played big minutes for the Javelinas and have been massive contributors offensively and defensively.
Payne still leads the way in scoring for the Javelinas, scoring 15.9 points per game this season. Singleton and Goldsmith are just behind Payne with 9.9 and 9.2 points per game respectively. Arnold and Livingston have been big contributors off the bench, with the duo scoring in double figures against UT-Tyler last week.Â
One of the brightest stars in this guard has been Singleton. The junior from League City is averaging 15.5 points, 3.75 rebounds, 5.25 assists and 1.75 steals over the last four games. Singleton's ball distribution has especially been a key point to the Javelinas offense, as he is top-ten in the conference in assists per game.
Tip-off for Thursday's game is set for 8:00 p.m. CST with the game being broadcast on Flosports. Fans of the Javelinas can follow live coverage through live stats or at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
