Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to No. 16 Dallas Baptist University, 94-79, Thursday evening at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (7-9, 3-7 Lone Star Conference) struggled on the offensive side of the ball for much of the game, shooting just 42.2 percent from the floor. The defense did not fare much better, giving up a season high 94 points and 16 3-pointers.
The early goings of the matchup did showcase that the Javelinas came to play, with a
Allen Singleton and-one and a
Daniel Sanchez 3-pointer knotting the game up at eight apiece. Texas A&M-Kingsville was even able to grab a small lead, thanks to a Singleton 3-pointer from the logo of the SPEC.
A
Jake Arnold tip-in layup with just about eight and a half minutes left cut kept the Javelinas well within striking distance, however that would be the closest the Javelinas would get. The Patriots (16-3 8-2 LSC) opened up a 32-13 run that essentially put the game out of reach for the Javelinas.
In the second half, Texas A&M-Kingsville was able to make the game interesting with seven 3-pointers. However, Dallas Baptist's offense was too much, eventually closing out the Javelinas in the final minutes of the contest.
Singleton led the Javelinas with 16 points, Arnold finished with 14 and Sanchez ended with 12.
Nate Lacewell finished with a team-high eight rebounds and Singleton led the team with five assists.
Texas A&M-Kingsville finishes up the homestead against UT-Tyler Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on Flosports or follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
