Javelinas kick off season with the Javelina Volleyball Classic

Kingsville - Javelina Volleyball kicks off its 2024 season against Westminster University and Minnesota-Duluth University at the Javelina Volleyball Classic on Friday.

Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to carry over the momentum of its 2023 season in which it reached the program's first ever Lone Star Conference championship finals and secured a berth to the NCAA South-Central Regional.

The Javelinas currently hold an all-time record of 2-0 against the Griffins of Westminster, with the last matchup being a decisive 3-1 victory in Salt Lake City, Utah. Meanwhile, Friday's competition against the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth will be the first time the two programs have crossed paths.

Westminster is coming off a 12-15 season in which it fell as the No. 8 seed in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. Minnesota-Duluth on the other hand finished its season 18-11 with an appearance in the NCAA Central regional.

Notably, the Javelinas are returning one of the best players in all of Division II in Ayanna Jackson. The senior from San Antonio currently sits in both the top five in career blocks and top eight in total kills in program history.

Jackson was named an LSC first team all-conference selection and was a American Volleyball Coaches Association all-American honorable mention for the 2023 season.

First serve for the Javelinas is set for 2 pm against Westminster on Friday at the Steinke Physical Education Center, with the game being streamed on Flosports.
