Chris Hensley inducted into Javelinas Hall of Fame

Kingsville - Former Texas A&M-Kingsville football player Chris Hensley was selected to be a member of the Javelina Athletics Hall of Fame.

Hensley is the second of five selections to be announced for this year's Hall of Fame class. With each selection being announced on sequential Wednesdays.

One of the greatest linebackers to ever suit up for the Javelinas, Hensley played for Texas A&M-Kingsville from 1994-1997. His impact on the program was felt from the moment he stepped on the field, being named to a Lone Star Conference all-conference team in 1994 and was selected as a Football Gazette National Player of the Week.

The 1994 Javelina Football team is also in the Javelina Athletics Hall of Fame, reaching the NCAA Division II National Championship game and winning the 1994 LSC Championship.

Hensley continued to dominate the following season, earning first team all-conference in the LSC and being named a member of the NCAA Division II All-Region first team. The Javelinas would take home the LSC conference title again and reach the NCAA Division II semifinals.

His final season with the Javelinas in 1997 was perhaps his crowning achievement in his time with Texaa A&M-Kingsville, being awarded first team all-American by the American Football Coaches Association and Football Gazette. He was also once again named a LSC first team all-conference and all-region.

The 1997 Javelinas would once again win the Lone Star Conference but would ultimately fall in the NCAA Division II playoffs to the University of California-Davis.

After finishing his playing career with the Javelinas, Hensley was selected to participate in the 1997 Snow Bowl at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.

Hensley's wife, the former Katie Pridgen, was a Javelina volleyball player.  His daughter, Samantha, is on the Javelina volleyball team and his son, Tyler, is on the Javelina baseball squad.

The Hall of Fame Ceremony is set for February 21st at the Student Union Building ballroom.
