KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team hosted the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on Senior Day and also the last regular season game of the season moving things into the postseason on a high note.
The Javelinas would get things going early as leadoff hitter
Breana Carr would get on via an error, followed by a
Lindsey Evans single putting runners at first and second with no outs.
Kayla Gonzales would single up the middle, advancing
Evans to second and scoring
Carr for the first run of the game. A
Dakota Martinez single to left would score another run as the Javelinas would head into the second up 2-0.
The Greyhounds would threaten in the top of the second getting runners on via two singles and a dropped fly ball, but the Javelinas would escape any damage getting out of the inning leaving three on the basepaths.
The Javelinas would load up the bases in the bottom of the third with singles from
Gonzales,
Ortiz, and
Kaylynne Ruiz but nothing would come of it as the Greyhounds would escape with no damage done in the inning.
The fourth would begin to make things interesting as the Greyhounds would come up to bat down 0-2 but would get both runs back on four singles in the inning tying the ballgame at 2 heading into the bottom half.
A single from
Carr would begin the offense for the Javelinas in the bottom of the fourth followed by a
Gonzales double that would score another, breaking the tie once more putting the Javelinas up 3-2.
Ortiz would walk and
Martinez would single to center to make it a 4-2 game heading into the 5
th inning.
The top of the fifth would see the Greyhounds get going early with a single to right then a single through the right-side putting runners on first and second with nobody out. A SAC bunt would move up the runners and a walk would follow before a Hit By Pitch would score a run making it 4-3 Javelinas still on top.
The Javelina offense would continue as the bottom of the fifth would start with an
Anissa Lechner single followed by an
Anabella Ramirez double that would score a run making it 5-3.
Carr would follow things up with a single and advance to second on the throw and the Javelinas would have runners on second and third with only one out.
Evans again would single and
Ramirez would score on the play making it now 6-3 and only one out in the inning.
Gonzales would double scoring both
Carr and
Evans 8-3 now with TAMUK still leading.
Ortiz would single scoring
Gonzales and that would send things to the 6
th inning Javelinas up by six.
A big Greyhound two run homerun would make things 9-5 and that would be the final as neither squad would be able to push across anything in the 7
th Javelinas take the Series 2-1 and the game 9-5.
The Javelinas will be playing in the Lone Star Conference tournament the next time they play, the LSC still has a few schools who need to finish their regular season but seeding and location will be available soon.
