Javelinas' regular season comes to a close with loss against TAMIU

KINGSVILLE, Texas - On the outside looking into the Lone Star Conference tournament, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 6-9 loss to the Texas A&M International Dustdevils.

The Javelinas finish the regular season at 23-27 overall and 21-27 in conference play. With the loss, the Javelinas currently sit 10th in the LSC standings with the top eight advancing to the conference tournament.

The Hogs still have an outsider's chance to make the tournament, but their fate is out of their hands, needing losses tomorrow and next week by St. Edwards and Eastern New Mexico.

The Dustdevils were first on the board to start the afternoon, quickly jumping out to a 5-0 lead with four runs in the opening inning and one more in the second. The Javelinas brought their first runs across the plate in the fourth and fifth innings with one run each. Kyle Perales picked up the first RBI of the afternoon on a single to center field. Garrett Thompson collected one as well in the fifth off a throwing error by the Dustdevils that brought home Brandon Ramirez.

TAMIU pushed their lead back out to six with three more runs in the top of the fifth.  The Hogs put up three more runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh with three straight singles. First, Michael Cervantes knocked a single through the middle before being followed up by Jacob Rosales and Perales, with all three collecting an RBI.

Both teams finished the game with a run apiece in the ninth inning to bring the game to its final score of 9-6. Rosales tallied his second RBI of the day on another single, this time to right field.

Lalo Salinas (3-6) is credited with the win for TAMIU while Jake Thielen (1-4) is given the loss for TAMUK.
