TAVARES, Florida — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team took to the sand for the third and final day of the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships, where they would face off against Tusculum University and Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Starting out the day TAMUK would face off against the Tusculum University Pioneers where the winner would move on to the Silver Bracket Championship and the loser would fight for third place.
Things would get going with the No. 1 pair of
Kalani Vasquez and
Rylan Pollard who would take down the Pioneers in two sets 21-13 and 21-15 TAMUK up early 1-0.
Court No. 2 of
Grace Gettys and
Adrienne VanBrunt would drop their matchup in two sets 13-21 and 16-21 putting both squads even 1-1.
The No. 3 flight of
Olivia Zeigler and
Madelyn Wallace would put the Javelinas back on top winning 22-20 in set one and 21-19 in set two.
Pair 5 would see
Meghan Stiefer and
Rylie Anderson clinch things for the Javelinas taking down the pioneers in two sets 21-19 and 21-13 ending the match and sending the Javelinas to the Silver Bracket Championship.
The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas face off against the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish for the silver bracket championship as they had also won their earlier matchup against Carson-Newman 3-0.
Things would get started with the first pair of
Vasquez and
Pollard who would need three sets but eventually take down the Sailfish 8-21, 21-18, and 15-9 putting the Javelinas on the board 1-0.
Flight 2 of
Gettys and
VanBrunt would start strong coming out of the gates 21-18 in set one, but would fall the next two sets 15-21, and 7-15, evening things up at one apiece.
The No. 3 pair of
Zeigler and
Wallace would put the Javelinas back on top 2-1 taking set one 21-16 and set two 21-13, being the only court that didn't go three sets.
Next, court No. 4 saw
Huesca and
McCarthy take set one 21-17 then fall 19-21 in set two finishing things off 15-9 in set three giving TAMUK the match at 3-1.
Pair 5 would see
Stiefer and
Anderson add to the Javelinas victory taking down the Sailfish in three sets, winning set one 21-12, dropping the second 20-22, and ending things 17-15 for the Javelinas to walk away winners and Silver Bracket Champions with a score of 4-1.
