TAVARES, Florida — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team continued on to day two of the AVCA Small College Beach Championships where they would take down the Saint Leo Lions 3-1 in the final pool play match up and drop the challenge round to Colorado mesa 0-3.
Starting out the day TAMUK faced off against the Saint Leo University Lions where they would take them down 3-1.
The No. 1 pair of
Kalani Vasquez and
Rylan Pollard would drop the fist matchup of the day 17-21 and 13-21 going down in two sets, the Javelinas trailing 0-1.
The No. 3 flight of
Olivia Zeigler and
Madelyn Wallace would make things even 1-1 as they would take down the Lions needing three sets to do so. They would drop set one 17-21 before only allowing a combined 18 points for the next two sets 21-8, and 15-10.
Pair number 4 of
Liana Huesca and
Taylor McCarthy would take down the opposition in two 21-14 in set one and 21-19 in set two putting the Javelinas up 2-1.
Court No. 5 would see
Meghan Stiefer and
Rylie Anderson produce identical scores 21-15 and 21-15 to give the Javelinas the victory 3-1 sending them to the Challenge Round undefeated.
The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas face off against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks where they would fall 0-3.
Court No. 2 of
Grace Gettys and
Adrienne VanBrunt would drop their matchup in two sets 18-21 and 16-21 putting the Javelinas behind 0-1.
Next, court No. 4 saw
Huesca and
McCarthy fall 11-21 in set one and 19-21 in set two, and the Javelinas down 0-2.
The final dagger would be court five of
Stiefer and
Anderson who would fall to the mavericks 15-21 and 20-22, putting the Mavericks on top and seeing the Javelinas fall 0-3.
The Javelinas will still participate in the Silver Bracket on Championship Sunday facing off against Tusculum University first at 8:00 AM. In a winning outcome the Javelinas will face either Carson-Newman or Palm Beach Atlantic in the championship at 11:45 AM, and in a losing outcome the Javelinas will face either of the same two squads for third place at the same time 11:45 AM.
