TAVARES, Florida — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team took to the courts at the AVCA Small College Beach Volleyball Championship on day one where they swept the opposition going 3-0 against no. 13 seeded Wayne State College then 3-0 against the no. 12 seed Erskine.
Starting out the day TAMUK faced off against the Wayne State College Wildcats where they would sweep them 3-0.
Starting out with the No. 1 pair of
Kalani Vasquez and
Rylan Pollard who would finished set one 21-19 and set two 21-16 putting the Javelinas in front 1-0.
The No. 3 flight of
Olivia Zeigler and
Madelyn Wallace would make things 2-0 as they would take down the Wildcats 21-19 and 21-16
Court No. 5 would finish things off as
Meghan Stiefer and
Rylie Anderson would sweep 21-18 and 21-14 completing the sweep of the first pool play match of the day 3-0.
The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas face off against the Erskine College Flying Fleet.
Court No. 1 would start things off as it would take three sets, but
Vasquez and
Pollard would still take down the Flying Fleet. Set one would see the duo go down 10-21, but they would recover and win 21-7 in set two and finalize their court 15-11 starting out their second match of the day 1-0.
Flight no.3 would see
Zeigler and
Wallace only allow 21 total points as they would take down Erskine 21-5 in set one and 21-16 in set two sweeping their court and putting the Javelinas up 2-0.
Next, court No. 4 saw
Liana Huesca and
Taylor McCarthy end match two taking down the flying fleet 21-14 in set one and 21-19 in set two making the Javelinas undefeated on the day and ready for their last pool play game Saturday facing off against St. Leo University.
