KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team continued on to day two of the Southeastern Invitational seeing McNeese and host school Southeastern Louisiana. The Javelinas would take down the Cowgirls in their early matchup in a full sweep 5-0 and would drop their last match of the tournament to the Lions 3-2.
The Javelinas would start off again with pair 4
Liana Huesca and
Taylor McCarthy who would take down the Cowgirls 21-15 and 21-14 to continue right where they left off from day one going up 1-0 early.
Flight five would follow suit as
Meghan Stiefer and
Rylie Anderson would take down the Cowgirls in two, 21-18 and 21-11 putting the Javelinas lead at 2-0 while courts changes took place.
Pair one
Kalani Vasquez and
Rylan Pollard would seal the victory for the Javelinas taking both sets 21-17 and 21-18.
Flight two would bounce back from day one as
Adrienne VanBrunt and
Grace Gettys would dominate walking away taking set one 21-19 and set two 21-16.
Pair three would be the icing on the cake as
Olivia Zeigler and
Madelyn Wallace would get the win completing the sweep taking both sets 22-20 and 21-18 sending the Javelinas on to their second match of the day winners 5-0.
The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas pitted against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions where the fourth flight of
Huesca and
McCarthy would open with a battle taking their match in three sets 21-17, 22-24, and 15-8.
Pair 5 would see
Stiefer and
Anderson drop a 4-match win streak falling 13-21 and 14-21 to put things at 1-1 as the other courts would prepare to get going.
Flight one in
Vasquez and
Pollard would fall in two 9-21 and 17-21 putting the overall match at 2-1 SELU leading.
Pair two of
VanBrunt and
Gettys would drop their first 15-21 then come storming back 21-15 and 16-14 taking it in three sets putting at 2-2.
The third flight would be the decider as
Zeigler and
Wallace would fall to the Lions in two 17-21 and 14-21 giving the Javelinas their first and only loss of the Invitational heading home 3-1 in the two day tournament.
The Javelinas will be back in action Friday March, 15 and Saturday March, 16 where they will head back to Cajun Country this time being on the northern side of the state in Monroe, Louisiana. They will face off against the Nicholls Colonels, familiar opponent McNeese Cowgirls, Missouri State Bears and the hosting Louisiana Monroe Warhawks in the ULM Bayou Bash. Times are set for 9 AM and 4:15 PM Friday, and 9 AM and 12:30 PM Saturday.
