KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team opened up the series against UT Tyler with a 6-2 win after bringing home two runs in the fifth inning to pull away from the Patriots.
The Javelinas (13-10, 11-10 LSC) pick up their fourth win in a row after taking the last three off of UT Permian Basin. The Patriots (11-10, 11-10 LSC) drop their first after winning their last two against Texas A&M International.
The scoring got going early as the Hogs brought a run across the plate in the first inning.
Ramsey Amador picked up the first RBI of the night on a sacrifice bunt, bringing home
Dalton Kramer who opened the game getting on base with a walk. The Patriots responded in the second, bringing across a run of their own to even the score.
Another one run scored for the Javelinas in the third as Kramer reached home for the second time in the game after drawing another walk.
Jacob Rosales' at-bat brought Kramer home, but Rosales did not get credit for the RBI, reaching base on a wild strike three pitch before getting run down trying to reach second.
The Patriots evened the game once again, scoring one run of their own once more in the fourth. The fifth saw the Hogs finally get the decisive inning they needed, bringing home two runners to push their lead to 4-2. Rosales made up for missing out on the earlier RBI by picking up two with one swing of the bat, scoring Kramer and
MJ Rodriguez off a single up the middle.
After two and a half scoreless innings, the Javelinas tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the deal.
Kyle Perales picked up his first RBI of the series on a single to bring
Jaden Cavazos across home plate before
Garrett Thompson followed up four batters later with a single of his own to score Perales.
Carter Poulson (1-2) picks up his first win of the season for the Javelinas while Josh Pelfrey (0-1) is credited with the loss for UT Tyler.
The teams meet once more on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader with game one of the day scheduled for 2 p.m. and game two scheduled for 30 minutes after completion of game one.
