Javelinas sweep day one versus Central Arkansas and Spring Hill

TAMUK start undefeated in the Southeastern Invitational and look to continue their dominance in day two

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Beach Volleyball Team was in Hammond, Louisiana on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana, where they would take down the Central Arkansas Bears and the Spring Hill College Badgers in the opening day of the Southeastern Invitational.

The Javelinas would start off on fire with the early matchup of pair 4 Liana Huesca and Taylor McCarthy taking down the Bears in three sets going down in the first 22-24 but recovering and dominating the next two 21-14 and 15-12.

Flight 5 would handle business as Meghan Stiefer and Rylie Anderson would take down the Bears in two, 21-17 and 21-16 putting the Javelinas up early 2-0.

The Bears would mount a comeback however seeing a slow start for the Javelinas pair one Kalani Vasquez and Rylan Pollard going down 0-2 17-21 and 19-21.

Flight two would suffer a similar fate as Adrienne VanBrunt and Grace Gettys would drop both sets 14-21, and 13-21 dropping their matchup 0-2 putting the Javelinas even 2-2.

Pair three would be the deciding court as Olivia Zeigler and Madelyn Wallace would get the win for the Javelinas taking both sets 21-17 and 21-19 securing the victory for the Javelinas 3-2.

The second matchup of the day saw the Javelinas pitted against the Spring Hill College Badgers where the fourth flight of Huesca and McCarthy would dominate to open after a lengthy weather delay. They would take both sets only allowing a combined 20 points 21-8 and 21-12.

Pair 5 would see a battle as Stiefer and Anderson would take set one 21-17 but drop set two going way past regulation 25-27, the third and deciding set would be all Javelinas as they would take it 15-13.

With the Javelinas up 2-0, courts one, two, and three would get going where déjà vu would hit the Javelinas seeing flight one in Vasquez and Pollard go down in two sets 12-21 and 13-21.

The trend would continue as flight two VanBrunt and Gettys would come up just short 19-21 and 18-21 tying things up again at 2-2.

The third flight would once again be the decider as Zeigler and Wallace would take down the Badgers 21-14 and 21-12 sending the Javelinas on to day two with two wins under their belt.

The Javelinas will face the McNeese Cowgirls and the host Southeastern Lions in day two hoping to continue on their roll. Matches will be at 9 AM and 1 PM CST.
