Javelinas fall to #6 UT-Tyler in Doubleheader matchup

TAMUK drops both games to Patriots at 5-3 apiece

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team returned home to host the #6 UT-Tyler Patriots, where they would drop both matchups 5-3.

Game 1

The game would get going with the Patriots threatening early seeing a two out double down the left field line and a walk putting runners on the corners with two down. A fly out would get the Javelinas out of the inning and take it to the bottom half.

The bottom would see Seleste Compian get on via the walk but get caught stealing at second on a close call. Kayla Gonzales would get on via hit by pitch but a fly out would end the inning with the game still scoreless.

The top of the second would see the Patriots take off with a lead off single followed by a SAC bunt to move the runner to second. A two out rally would commence and a single to right would score a run breaking the scoreless game 1-0. After a Hit By Pitch and an RBI single the Patriots would leave the top of the second up 2-0.

Lindsey Evans would start the bottom of the second with a leadoff double, but the Javelinas would follow going down in order to send things to the third Patriots still up 2-0.

A one out single and a Hit By Pitch would be the only baserunners for the Patriots as they were unable to push anything across game still 2-0 heading to bottom third.

A one out Compian walk, and a two out Gonzales walk would bring up Aaliyah Ortiz to the plate where she would single moving the Javelinas station to station. Two outs and bases loaded for Evans as she would rip a triple to left center to the wall giving the fielders trouble as they would collide. Compian, Gonzales, and Ortiz would all come around to score putting the Javelinas on top 3-2 as we would head to the fourth.

A lead off single would get the Patriots on base early but a quick two outs would follow, prompting a two out double to left center scoring the runner all the way from first to tie things up at three apiece heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Dakota Martinez would start things out with a single but the Javelinas after would all go down in order sending the game to the 5th tied at three.

Yet another leadoff single would see the Patriots sacrifice bunt her over putting a runner on first with one out in the inning. A one out double would get the run home from second as the Patriots would move things into the bottom of the 5th up 4-3.

A one out single by Gonzales would be erased with a double play sending things to the 6th with the Javelinas still down 3-4.

The top of the sixth would start off with a strikeout followed by a single to put another Patriot baserunner on early in the inning. A two out rally would ensue as a single up the middle would put another runner on setting up the single to left which would score another run. The Patriots got a little too greedy however attempting to send another runner home who would be cut down on a beautiful throw from Evans cut off by Gonzales who would throw to Sarah Montes for the tag ending the inning heading to the bottom half 5-3 Patriots in front.

The Javelinas Martinez would attempt to get a two out rally of their own going, with a single through the left side before a strikeout would end the inning sending it to what could be the final frame, Javelinas still trailing 3-5.
A leadoff single and a walk to follow would start the inning out for the Patriots before two pop flys and a flyout would send thing to the bottom half.

The Javelinas would go three up three down in the bottom half ending game one 5-3 in favor of the Patriots.

Game 2

The second game would start out with a strikeout seeing the Javelinas flex their defensive and pitching prowess only allowing a single and a walk sending things to the bottom half scoreless.

Seleste Compian would once again start things for the Javelinas as she would draw a leadoff walk. Breana Carr would get in on the action singling through the left side putting Javelinas at first and second with nobody out in the inning. Kayla Gonzales would single as well moving the Javelinas station to station loading the bases with nobody out yet. Aaliyah Ortiz would draw a walk which would drive in the first Javelina run putting them on top early 1-0. After the Patriots made a pitching change Lindsey Evans would single to left field scoring another run before three strikeouts would follow but the Javelinas would head to the second up 2-0.

UT-Tyler would come out in the second with a leadoff single, followed by a SAC bunt to put a runner in scoring position with only one out. Two walks in a row would load up the bases for the Patriots before a Hit By Pitch would score their first run followed by a single to right center that would drive in two putting the Patriots on top 3-2. A SAC fly would add another putting the game at 4-2 Patriots as the game would progress to the bottom half of the second.

The Javelinas would go down in order in the inning sending the game to the third still down 2-4.

A single, HBP, and a walk would load the bases for the Patriots, but the Javelinas would get out of the inning with no damage sending things to the bottom half.

Evans would draw a two out walk but that would be the only offense for the Javelinas in the bottom of the third game still 4-2 Patriots on top.

The Patriots would stall on offense as well only having a one out single before moving the game along to the bottom of the 4th.

Another three up three down inning for the Javelinas would move things to the 5th still down 2-4.

The top of the 5th would start off with a leadoff double then followed by a one out double scoring another run Patriots going up 5-2.

Still trying to get things going, the Javelinas would go down once again in order in the bottom of the 5th, moving things right along into the 6th.

This time the Patriots would be the ones to go down in order sending things to the bottom of the 6th still up 5-2.

The bottom of the inning would start with a bang as Aaliyah Ortiz would homer to left cutting into the deficit making it 5-3. Kaylynne Ruiz would single up the middle and Anissa Lechner would walk but the Javelinas wouldn't be able to push anything else across in the bottom half sending things to the 7th inning score 5-3.

Both the top and bottom half of the inning would see the offenses go down in order ending the game 5-3 Patriots and sending things to game three UT-Tyler up in the series 2-0.

The Javelinas look to get back on track next time out as they face the UT-Tyler Patriots for their series finale at 1 P.M. CST at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
