Javelinas triumph over UTPB twice in doubleheader

TAMUK downs Falcons only needing 5 innings to do so

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ODESSA, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team took on the UTPB Falcons where they would come out on top in both games of a doubleheader matchup 10-2, and 10-1.

Game 1

The game would start off fast with the Javelinas going on top early as Kayla Gonzales would knock a 2-run homer to get things going send things to the bottom half up 2-0.

The bottom would see nothing more than a 2 out single before moving the game along into the second.

Anissa Lechner would hit a two out single advancing Dakota Martinez to second before the end of the inning would send things to the bottom half Javelinas still up 2-0.

The bottom half of the second would see a lead off single before the rest would go down in order to send the Javelinas back up to bat in the third.

Top of the third would see Breana Carr single to get on then swipe a bag to get over to second, advancing to third on a ball flung into the outfield by the catcher. Gonzales would single scoring Carr putting things at 3-0 Javelinas on top as they would head into the bottom of the third.

The Bottom half would see the Falcons fight as a lead off walk would lead to a 2-run homer of their own closing the gap for the falcons heading into the fourth Javelinas still up.

The top half of the 4th saw the Javelinas take off on a hot streak with Lechner leading off with a single and Victoria Mosqueda singling putting two Javelinas on with no one out. Carr would walk to load the bases before Gonzales would double driving in two runs putting the score at 5-2 with only one out in the inning. Aaliyah Ortiz would single driving in a run increasing the lead again for the Javelinas 6-2. Evans would also single and drive in a run, before Ruiz would drive in another via a groundout making it 8-2 with 2 out in the inning. Martinez would single in a run, and score on an error sending things to the bottom of the fourth with the Javelinas in front big 10-2.

A leadoff single and a one out single would be the only offense for the Falcons before the rest of the lineup would strike out to end the inning sending things to the 5th inning Javelinas still leading.

Nothing doing for the Javelinas in the top half sending things to the bottom half with the Falcons needing to score some runs before the game would be called.

A two out single would be the only hit in the inning for the Falcons as that would do it for the first game of the double header Javelinas win 10-2.

Game 2

The second game would start off with the Javelinas picking up where they left off seeing Ortiz single in a run to start off the game with the Javelinas in front 1-0 heading to the bottom half.

The Falcons would have a tough time getting going as they would ground out, fly out, and pop out, to send things to the second.

The top of the second would see the Javelinas again pick up a run putting a new meaning to two out rally and taking advantage of defensive errors. Rylee Oborski would get on via a bunt single, steal second and advance to third on an error putting a runner in scoring position. With two down, Seleste Compian would walk and steal second advancing to third on an error scoring Oborski to send things to the bottom of the second Javelinas up 2-0.

The Falcons would go down in order in the bottom of the second, sending things to the third quickly Javelinas still up 2-0.

The top of the third would see the Javelinas go down quick as the only offense would be a two out Lindsey Evans walk.

The bottom of the third would once again see the Falcons go three up three down, sending things to the fourth with the game still close 2-0.

The top of the fourth would see the Javelinas get going on another run as Martinez would lead off the inning with a single followed by two quick outs. Two out rally time for the Javelinas as they would see a Jackie Garza single that would drive in a run making it 3-0. Ortiz would walk with the bases loaded to give the Javelinas another and this would send things to the bottom of the fourth Javelinas on top 4-0.

The Falcons would close the gap with a home run sending things to the fifth Javelinas still on top 4-1.

The top of the fifth would turn out to be the deciding inning as Ruiz would get hit by the pitch, followed by a Martinez walk and a Lechner single to load the bases with nobody out. Oborski would draw a walk, bringing home a run, Javelinas now on top 5-1. Mariah Vasquez would then get on via the walk also bringing in a run Hogs now up 6-1. Gonzales would also walk making it three straight runs via the walk and the Javelinas leading 7-1. Ortiz would get a pitch to hit and would knock a 2 RBI single Javelinas increasing their lead 9-1. Martinez with the two out single would drive in a run being the last run of the inning heading to the bottom half Javelinas up 10-1.

The Falcons in a similar situation as last game where they would need to score to keep it going would go down via strike out, ground out, and strike out ending game two Javelinas walking away winners 10-1.

The Javelinas look to pick up the series sweep against the UT Permian Basin Falcons tomorrow with the first pitch slated for 12:00 P.M. CST.
