KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team opened their series against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles with a 6-1 win thanks to a handful of Eagle errors and wild pitches.
The Javelinas (18-13, 16-13 LSC) pick up their fifth win in a row after sweeping Arkansas-Fort Smith the week prior. The Eagles (6-21, 6-19 LSC) drop game one coming off their first series win of the year against Texas A&M International.
The Javelinas struck fast and early, quickly opening up a 5-0 lead in the first four innings of play.
Collin Young got things started for the Hogs in the second inning, scoring
Jake Chapman on a triple down the right field line for the first RBI of the game. Chapman opened the inning reaching base on a throwing error by the Eagles, the first of three errors on the day for OC.
Things kept rolling in the third as the Javelinas brought home two runs on back-to-back wild pitches from the Eagles.
Jacob Rosales was the first across home plate after getting on base with a walk.
Ramsey Amador followed him home shortly after, reaching on a fielder's choice then stealing second.
Two more runs crossed home plate in the fourth for the Hogs.
Eric Garcia tallied the second RBI of the night on a single up the middle to score
MJ Rodriguez. Garcia then reached home himself thanks to a Rosales single that led to another throwing error by the Eagles to score.
The Eagles scored their lone run of the night in the eighth inning but the Hogs responded in kind as
Seth Brecheen knocked a double to left field to score Amador for the sixth and final run of the night.
Carter Poulson (3-2) picks up the win for the Javelinas after pitching seven complete innings while
Brian Buchanan grabs his first save of the year. Will Rodman (0-3) is credited with the loss for the Eagles.
The two teams meet once more on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. with game two scheduled for 5 p.m.
